Sanky Panky is a series of comedy films from the Dominican Republic. The first installment, Sanky Panky (2007), follows the misadventures of a young man named Genaro (Fausto Mata) who moves from his rural village to Santo Domingo in search of a better life. He gets caught up in the world of "sanky pankys," or gigolos, who seduce wealthy foreign women in exchange for money and gifts.
The film was a box office success in the Dominican Republic and spawned two sequels: Sanky Panky 2 (2013) and Sanky Panky 3 (2018). The sequels continue to follow Genaro and his friends as they navigate the world of the sanky panky lifestyle, but also explore other themes, such as love, family, and personal growth.
The Sanky Panky series has been praised for its humor, colorful visuals, and depiction of Dominican culture. It has also garnered criticism for its portrayal of sex tourism and objectification of women. Despite this, the films remain popular in the Dominican Republic and have helped to launch the careers of many of its stars, including Fausto Mata, Tony Pascual (Pachulí), and Aquiles Correa.
